EDITORIAL
This edition of the Chronicle has been produced by two editors instead of the customary one. We hope that you will enjoy it and consider it to be a satisfactory record of the term's events.
CHOIR by C. Owens
This term we have five new members of the choir. They are C. Sanderson, D. Elias, A. Elias, A. Comeau and A. Jakeman. There have been two Head Choristers this term, J. Maynard and R. Campbell. A. Rodgers retains his position as Cross Bearer. The choir has sung at three weddings this term and will also sing at the Carol Service at the Royal Naval College at the end of term.
GUESTS by M. McConnell
This term we have had many guests including two mothers of old boys, Mrs. McCann and Mrs. Tyekiff, also Mrs. Croome, the Reverend Derek Brown (Rector of Deptford), Sir Hugh Saunders, Flying Officers Hooper and Perry of R. A. F. Odiham, Mr. Vincent Taylor, Lady Cordingley, Miss Townsend (a Headmistress), Mr. Newman, Sergeant Stibbard (of the Greenwich Police), Miss Vince (a former Matron), and Air Marshal Sir John Whitley.
We have also had our usual weekly guests: Mr. Paddy Purcell, Mr. Brunker, Miss Tappenden and Father Dunn. The following old boys have also visited us: K. Mulligan, P. Sanders, B. Pafford and N. Grayston.
WEAVING by R. Jakeman
The Weaving Class is not quite so large as usual, but we are still very fortunate in having Mrs. Spiers to teach us. There are nine looms in the weaving room, and the class consists of the following boys: B. Jakeman, A. Jakeman, R. Jakeman, A. Armstrong, P. Borthwick, A. Elias, G. Sanders.
THE BAND by R. Campbell
At the beginning of term there were only six members left of last term's band. They were: J. Maynard, A. MacFadyen, D. Frost, G. Clarke, T. Baker, and R. Campbell. We have six new members of the band and these are: A. Elias, M. Gribben, B. Jakeman, D. MacKelden, P. Borthwick and G. Sanders. Three members of the band have played in concerts given by the London Youth Band this term. The band is doing well and hopes to be even better by Speech Day.
SCHOOL DEVELOPMENTS by A. Green
The decoration of the Knollys Wing has now been completed and it is now in use. There is a large Sick Room 'Saunders' in the Wing, and the old Sick Room (Newall) is now a dormitory for four boys. The new Davis dormitory is to be renamed 'Babington' and the classrooms are to be renamed 'The Whitley Classrooms'.
Since the School was burgled, broken glass has been put on the outside walls; and the Dell is being re-fenced.
A new system of intercommunication telephones has been installed in the School for the use of the Staff.
OLD BOYS' NEWS by A. Rodgers
REED'S SCHOOL by I. MacFadyen
J. Clelford of Bristowe House is in form Upper IVB and has played in three Junior House matches and in the Junior House League (Rugby). He is a member of the Junior French Society, the School Orchestra and the R. A. F. section of the C. C. F.
N. Grayston of Mullens House is in the Lower IV Form. He has played in three Junior House Matches and is a member of the Junior Art and Junior Science Societies.
K. Huxford of Capel House is in form Upper IVA. He is a member of the R. A. F. section of the C. C. F.
B. Longhurst of Mullens House is in the Upper VI Science and has played in the 2nd XV and his Senior House teams. He plays the saxophone in the School Orchestra.
I. MacFadyen of Bristowe House in in form V, is a Common Room Captain and Junior Representative on the School Chapel Committee. He has passed the R. A. F. Basic Proficiency Examination and last term obtained five passes at G. C. E. 'O' Level.
T. Maynard of Capel House is in form Upper IVA. He has played in the 3rd XV team as scrum half. He is a Common Room Captain and a member of the Junior Art, Chemistry, Junior Science and Astronomical Societies.
C. Pafford of Capel House is in form Upper VI Arts. He is a House Prefect and has played in the 2nd XV. He is in his House Sevens team, Senior House Team and is Captain of the 3rd XV. He has produced and acted in his House Play and edited his House Magazine. After staying on an extra term next year he hopes to enter Cambridge University.
D. Patten of Mullens House is in form Upper IVB. He has played in the Under 15 XV, is a member of the Junior House team and the School Squash Team. He is a Common Room Captain and a member of the R. A. F. section of the C.C.F.
M. Smith of Bristowe House is in form Upper VI Arts. He is Secretary of the Christian Union and the Locomotive Society, and Leader of the School Tandem Set and the Junior Christian Union. He is also a member of the Choral and Music Societies.
D. Taylor of Mullens House is in form Upper VI Science. He is Captain of his House, Captain of the 1st XV, Captain of his Senior House Team and is Vice-Captain of the School.
ST. AUGUSTINE'S ABBEY by K. Mulligan
P. Sanders of Form 3a is a member of the Junior Photographic Club, the Table Games Club and Hobbies Club. He is also a member of Allcock House and Abbey School Under 15 XV.
T. McConnell of Form 3a, is a member of the Junior Photographic Club, the Table Games Club and Hobbies Club. He is also a Scout.
K. Mulligan of Form 4, is a Senior Scout and a member of the Hobbies Club. He also plays the clarinet in the Senior Orchestra. He is a member of the Under 14 XV and the Under 15 XV.
KINGHAM HILL SCHOOL by P. McCann
Norwich House
B. Pafford is in the Upper IV form. He is a member of the C. C. F. , the 1st XV and Norwich House Senior Basket Ball Team.
T. Ogden is in the Upper IV form. He is a member of the 2nd XV, and the Norwich Senior Basket Ball Team and the C. C. F.
G. Meace is in the Upper III form. He is a member of the C. C. F. , the Kingham Hill Choir and the Opera Chorus.
P. McCann is in the Lower III form. He is a member of the C. C. F. , the Under 14 XV and Under 13g XV, and the Norwich House Junior Basket Ball team.
Bradford House
K. Barley is in the Lower IV. He is a member of the C. C. F. , the House Basket Ball team, the House Rugby team, the Octagan Club and the House Shooting team.
D. Rodgers is in the Lower IV. He is the House Shooting captain, a member of the C. C. F. and the House Rugby and Basketball teams.
J. Keeble is in the Lower III. He is the Junior House basketball captain, a member of the C. C. F. , the Under 14 Rugby team, the Junior Rugby Team and in the History Club.
A. Solomon is in the Upper III. He is a member of the C. C. F. , the Model Club, the House Rugby team.
K. Haigh is in the Lower III. He is a riding instructor, a member of the C. C. F. , the Young Farmers Club, and the House Rugby team.
G. Pountney is in the Lower II. He is a member of the House Rugby Club and the History Club.
Greenwich House
P. Banbury is in the Lower IV. He is a member of the C. C. F. and the School Orchestra.
B. Tyekiff is in the Lower III, He is a member of the C. C. F., the Young Farmers Club, the Riding Club, the Under 14 and Under 13 XV, the House Basketball team, the the Junior House XV.
Sheffield House
D. Evison is in the Lower VI. He is a member of the School Orchestra, the Music Club, the House XV, the Opera and Orchestral Club and the C. C. F.
Dixon is in the Lower IV. He is vice-captain of the School Riding Team, and a member of the Camera Club, the House Rugby team and the C. C. F.
Durham House
Jones is in the Lower IV. He is a member of the C. C. F., the House XV and the History Club.
FILMS by A. MacFadyen
This term we have seen several films of great interest to both the young and older members of the School. They included:

VISITS TO PLACES by J. Maynard
We have been very fortunate this term to have been out on many visits to various places. The whole School has visited R. A. F. Odiham this term and also the "Cutty Sark". The Fifth Form attended a Science Lecture at the Royal Institution, and some members of the Fourth and Fifth Forms attended a concert at the Royal Festival Hall. A Quiz Team went to Reed's School and beat their Junior House; and a team entered a Rock Climbing Competition at the Bowles Gymnasium, which came second. The Cubs went to a Swimming Gala, and were placed third among all the Greenwich Packs.
We should like to thank the Headmaster and the Staff for arranging these visits for us, and to say how much they are appreciated by us all.
FOOTBALL by N. Rankin (Captain)
The Soccer Team this term consists of: A. Rodgers, M. Breary, A. Green, J. Ingleson, A. MacFadyen, R. Jakeman, C. Sanderson, C. Kendall, A. Galvin, R. Smith, M. Barlow, J. Maynard, R. Campbell and N. Rankin (Captain).
Mr. Lillywhite and Mr. Davies have introduced the system 2:4:4, which we now use.
We have played against the following schools: Carn Brea, Clare House, Westminster Under School, Westminster Abbey Choir School, and Kings College School. The results are as follows:

The goal scorers were: Maynard 7, Barlow 2, Rankin 2, Galvin 1.
The Second XI This team are all relatively young players and have played very well together as a team. We have a few First XI players in the team, but in some matches the Second XI proved what they could do without them. M. McConnell has tried hard to reach the First XI team but has so far been unable to do so. He has scored three goals for the Second XI.
SCHOOL CLUBS by C. Kendall
The Chess Club
A Chess Club has been started this term by Mr. Davies. It has been very active this term, and Mr. Davies has challenged Reed's School to a Chess Competition. We have also had an inter-house competition which Cordingley won.
The Rifle Club
There have been so many other activities this term that there has not been much time for shooting. The Headmaster has very kindly lent the Rifle Club two Air Rifles.
The Campfire Club
The Club, which was started by Miss Orr over a year ago, meets on Saturdays and Sundays. Members learn English and Foreign Folk Songs, and have had several compfires.
STAFF by A. MacFadyen
We have two new members of Staff this term, Mr. Lillywhite and Mr. Davies who join the Headmaster, Mr. Morton and Miss Orr. Mr. Morton now teaches us Science in place of Mr. Paul, and we have a new Art teacher, Mr. Awcock.
The Domestic staff has also changed slightly. Julio and his wife have left, but we now have a new cook.
We also have two new Matrons this term, Miss Oldacres and Miss Kay.
ST. CLEMENT DANE'S CAROL SERVICE
The R. A. F. Benevolent Fund are organising a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on Sunday, 18th December at which John Ingleson has been invited to read the First Lesson and twelve other Vanbrugh boys will be carrying lanterns. Her Royal Highness Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, will be attending, and it is possible that this will be an annual occasion.
EPIDIASCOPE
The ladies of the R. A. F. Staff College have presented the school with a fine epidiascope, an instrument that will project pictures and solid objects on to a screen. There is no need to make slides or transparancies.
